Dr. Felipe Hernández-Rodríguez is an Associate Professor at the School of Engineering and Sciences at Tecnológico de Monterrey, with a consolidated trajectory at the intersection of engineering, education, and emerging technologies, and a strategic focus on the digital transformation of higher education in Latin America. He holds a Ph.D. in Robotics and Advanced Manufacturing from CINVESTAV-IPN and has oriented his research toward the design of innovative learning ecosystems through the integration of artificial intelligence, immersive technologies (XR), and remote laboratories, fostering active, industry-linked educational experiences.
He is the author of more than 20 publications in SCOPUS- and IEEE-indexed journals and conferences, as well as book chapters in international publishers such as Springer. His work has been presented at leading academic forums across Europe, Asia, Oceania, and the Americas, including IEEE EDUCON, ICEMT, TEEM, SETE, WEEF & GEDC, EDULEARN, and ICDLE, and published in international journals such as Cogent Engineering and Heliyon (Elsevier). His contributions have been recognized with Best Paper Awards at international conferences, reinforcing his position in engineering education and educational technologies.
Dr. Hernández-Rodríguez actively participates in international academic collaboration networks across Latin America and Europe, maintaining partnerships with institutions in Colombia, Peru, Costa Rica, Mexico, and Spain, as well as direct collaborations with the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and EdTech organizations in Chile. He is a member of the UNESCO Chair on Open Education Movement for Latin America, contributing to international initiatives in open science and co-authoring works such as Mobilizing Horizons for the Future of Education and Open Science .
He has undertaken international academic stays and contributes to regional initiatives such as PALELD (Program for the Development of Reading and Writing through Literature and its Derivatives), currently in a pilot phase supporting the Costa Rican educational system. In addition, he serves as a reviewer for international journals from publishers such as Elsevier and as a judge in globally recognized initiatives such as the QS Reimagine Education Awards, strengthening his role in the evaluation of educational innovation worldwide.
At the institutional level, he leads educational innovation initiatives under the Tec21 model in collaboration with global companies such as General Motors, Magna, and BorgWarner, contributing to talent development and strengthening university industry engagement. He has actively participated in strategic initiatives such as the University Industry Advisory Council and in projects related to the regional automotive cluster, enhancing the connection between education, industry, and economic development. He also contributes to institutional governance through his participation in academic committees, including the Academic Integrity Committee.
