I obtained my PhD in Genetics at the University of California, Riverside in 1996, where I acquired experience in research within the fields of biology and growth of fungi and plant development. Later, as researcher at CINVESTAV Unidad Irapuato, my research area focused on plant-pathogen interactions. My interest in education began in 2003 with the development and implementation of science education programs in formal and informal environments. From the experience of developing proposals for the scientific education of blind and visually impaired students, I decided to transition towards Science Education research and moved to CINVESTAV Monterrey after one-year sabbatical at UC Berkeley in 2011. My current research interest centers on science education of students undergoing marginalized conditions and teacher development programs, from the perspective of inclusive science education; a newer field of research is the use of academic makerspaces for inclusive education and the development of competencies in higher education students. My academic production includes 55 research articles and book chapters, one book for teachers and 24 patents (2 patents, 17 utility models, 5 industrial design titles), from the Mexican patent office (IMPI). Google scholar reports over 3100 citations to my papers. At Tecnologico de Monterrey I lead multi and interdisciplinary projects around science education. I have designed courses on inclusive education and Universal Desgign for Learning for graduate and undergraduate programs. I alsto do teacher development courses. My experience includes teaching in a program offered for Chilean teachers on Biology didactics (2012-2015). I have also offered conferences and workshops on inclusive education of sciences in several states in Mexico and outside of the country.
