Vargas-Martínez, Adriana

Overview

Adriana Vargas Martínez is Executive Director of Research Strategy at Tecnológico de Monterrey, where she leads the consolidation and implementation of a comprehensive research framework aligned with the institutional strategy and focused on generating global impact. She also coordinates the strategic collaboration between Tecnológico de Monterrey and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), strengthening academic and research ties between both institutions. Previously, she served as Associate Dean of Professional Graduate Programs and Internationalization at the School of Engineering and Sciences, where she strengthened professional-oriented graduate programs and promoted international partnerships. From 2022 to 2025, she led the national initiative Ingenia Women in Engineering and Science, aimed at fostering equal opportunities and inspiring female participation in STEM fields. She has held various leadership positions at Tecnológico de Monterrey, including Regional Director and Associate Director of the Department of Mechatronics. Her research interests include Educational Innovation, Automatic Control, Intelligent Control Systems, and Fault-Tolerant Control. She has authored more than 70 publications in research and education and is a Level I member of Mexico¿s National System of Researchers (SNI). She earned her Bachelor¿s degree in Chemical Engineering (2005), her Master¿s degree in Environmental Systems Sciences (2007), and her Ph.D. in Engineering Sciences with a specialization in Automation (2011) ¿ all from Tecnológico de Monterrey, Monterrey Campus. Her international experience includes a research stay at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (2010) and a postdoctoral fellowship at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada (2012¿2013). A passionate advocate for inclusion and gender equity in engineering and science, Adriana fosters educational environments that strengthen women¿s professional development and promote their leadership in STEM. Her academic and professional trajectory reflects a steadfast commitment to excellence, innovation, and the advancement of science and technology.
