Torres-Martínez, Juan Antonio

Overview

I am a Research Professor in the Department of Sustainable Technologies and Civil Engineering at the School of Engineering and Sciences, Tecnológico de Monterrey, Querétaro Campus. I hold a B.Eng. in Civil Engineering from the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo (2014) and earned both my M.Sc. in Environmental Systems (2016) and Ph.D. in Engineering (2020) from Tecnológico de Monterrey. My academic and research work lies at the intersection of isotope hydrology, groundwater geochemistry, and aquifer contamination, integrating machine-learning tools to advance the analysis and sustainable management of water resources. My contributions include identifying diffuse pollution sources, modeling subsurface contaminant flow and transport, and developing predictive models to support decision-making in vulnerable regions. I have served as an invited consultant to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on international projects incorporating isotopic techniques for integrated water-resources management. My work has received national recognition, including the Rómulo Garza Award for high-impact scientific publication and the Mexican Council of Graduate Studies Award for Innovation and Social Impact for my doctoral thesis. I am currently a Level I Member of Mexico¿s National System of Researchers (SNI) and serve on the editorial board of Science of the Total Environment.
